Recover Lost Data in 3 Steps
Today I opened a document in Microsoft Word (a magazine review that I was poised to write, barring the odd alteration to your sentence or two) and when trying to modify this document the screen went blank. I suppose the right thing to own done at that time ended up being visit edit>undo but I didn't.
I was frankly mystified; I'd already suffered a shock last week-end when my lap top suddenly refused to react and I a rather depressing a day of interest until a pal here had diagnosed a problem with it. Relief!
In these a day, it provided the chance reflect on just how much we often depend on our little machines. Just over this past year, my old PC caught the herpes virus and the same task occurred, unexpectedly. I lost, not merely some precious writings but my email addresses, passwords and stuff I can't (or don't wish to) re-call.
It brought back a similar memories: It was like having brain surgery in which a large part of my existence ended up removed and I had exactly the same situation last weekend, albeit for only a day possibly even, zombie state.
I do usually back-up things while on an external H/D but I ought to admit I'm a little lax with this. Luckily during those times, a few of my old emails were stored over a greetings card internet site so I was very grateful to the at the very least.
So time for this morning. I opened the document, composed of some 1000 words or thereabouts so that as soon as I attemptedto then add words the screen went blank, immediately, no warning, no: "Are you sure you want to ditch this couple of hours of one's creative thinking?"
No - nothing, zilch.
Then I tried system restore, which I wouldn't normally go anywhere near and still have it disabled (although it seemed to possess re-abled itself today on its own - curious?) Negative result anyway.
So, I searched and I searched, over the usual channels and I can find this 19.5 kb file easily however with a similar result - blank page.
Now obviously it needs to be somewhere in my harddrive but where? I even checked the re-cycle bin in the event, nevertheless, no.
I spent hours on the net, trawling from the Microsoft (soft within the head?) "support" which. as usual had me going round and round and rou....what?? Oh, yes!
Sorry that, just nodded off, the thing is that.
I even down-loaded a recovery programme and, naturally, re-cycled that very quickly.
Point is, I'm a bit nervous now about writing any articles, if they can just disappear in smoke before my eyes. I always save, save, save as I'm writing but with this occasion, I'm writing direct onto Street Articles equally as a precaution and can decide to save any future stuff like a draft; no less than that way, I know it's on the market somewhere.
I'd advise anyone else to complete the same task.
Meanwhile, if any one of you humans have any response to this bizarre problem, you may could make me aware, so I can avoid it later on.
Many thanks.
