Recover Lost Data in 3 Steps
Today I opened a document in Microsoft Word (a book review that I was poised to write, barring the odd alteration to a sentence or two) when trying to modify this document the screen went blank. I suppose the right thing to possess done when this occurs ended up being to head to edit>undo but I didn't.
I was frankly mystified; I'd already suffered a shock last week-end when my lap top suddenly refused to respond and I were built with a rather depressing twenty four hours of interest until a pal here had diagnosed a problem with the battery. Relief!
In these 24 hours, it provided me with the opportunity think about just how much we have a tendency to depend upon our little machines. Just over this past year, my old PC caught the herpes virus and also the same task occurred, unexpectedly. I lost, not only some precious writings but all my email addresses, passwords and stuff I can't (or don't wish to) re-call.
It brought back the identical memories: It was like having brain surgery where a large part of my existence have been removed and I had exactly the same situation last weekend, albeit just for a day or so, zombie state.
I do have a tendency to back-up things on an external H/D but I must admit I'm a little lax with this. Luckily in those days, some of my old emails were stored on the greetings card web site so I was very grateful for your no less than.
So to this morning. I opened the document, comprising some 1000 words or thereabouts and as soon as I tried to atart exercising . words the screen went blank, immediately, no warning, no: "Are you sure you would like to ditch this few hours of one's creativeness?"
No - nothing, zilch.
Then I tried system restore, which I may not go anywhere near and still have it disabled (even though it seemed to get re-abled itself today alone - curious?) Negative result anyway.
So, I searched and I searched, with the usual channels and I could find this 19.5 kb file easily however with exactly the same result - blank page.
Now obviously it must be somewhere in my hard disk drive but where? I even checked the re-cycle bin in the event that, yet, no.
I spent hours on the internet, trawling with the Microsoft (soft within the head?) "support" which. as usual had me going round and round and rou....what?? Oh, yes!
Sorry with that, just nodded off, the truth is.
I even down-loaded a recovery programme and, of course, re-cycled that very quickly.
Point is, I'm a bit nervous now about writing any articles, if they can just disappear in smoke before my eyes. I always save, save, save as I'm writing but with this occasion, I'm writing direct onto Street Articles equally as a precaution and definately will decide to save any future stuff as a draft; a minimum of that way, I know it's out there somewhere.
I'd advise someone else to accomplish the same.
Meanwhile, if any one of you everyone has a potential response to this bizarre problem, maybe you could make me aware, so I can avoid it later on.
Many thanks.
